BVES B.A.R.K.

This is going to be an exciting new year!  We are very enthusiastic about our school-wide program called Positive Behavioral Intervention Supports (PBIS).  This program is for all students, all staff and is implemented in all classroom and non-classroom settings (i.e. bus, cafeteria, and hallway).  Basically, we will teach and model a set of rules and behavioral expectations.  We will teach what each rule means in the classroom, hallway, cafeteria, playground, and bus. We call our rules the Bay View B.A.R.K.

We have developed a reward system to recognize students who follow the BV BARK.  Students will be earning BARK Bucks.  Each Buck goes into a weekly drawing for prizes, one per grade level.  All Bucks then go into a marking period drawing for an extra special reward.  We would appreciate parent support in this program by reinforcing these rules at home and celebrating with your child when they receive a BARK Buck.

Another program that Mrs. Hawkins and I are implementing this year is our “Express Yourself Through Art”.  We will be working with small groups of students in grades 1-5 on a rotating schedule throughout the school year.  Each group will meet during the school day, once a week for 45 minutes for a total of six sessions.  We will be exploring our feelings and creating artwork to express our feelings.  We have lots of fun together!

I am very thankful to be serving as the child development counselor for Bay View Elementary again this year.  I wanted to take a moment to describe how I can be of assistance to your child/children.  I provide classroom guidance lessons on a rotating basis for all classes’ kindergarten to fifth grade.  I help teach children about their feelings, how to solve problems, accept differences and build strong character, and we explore the world of work.  I also provide small group counseling and individual counseling throughout the year.
