Principal's Comments
Dear Calvert Families,
Greetings! I always look forward to the month of March. It’s a time for looking forward to spring and its warmer temperatures and for March Madness to begin. J More importantly, it’s time for our students to take MSA testing, which will take place from March 8-17 this year.
All of our third, fourth, and fifth graders will have two days of reading testing and two days of math testing over those days. There will be selected response questions, where students will have to choose the correct answer, and constructed response questions, where they will have to give an answer and then justify it in writing. We have been working hard on writing Brief Constructed Responses (BCR’s) all year, so hopefully that will pay off during testing.
To help our students in grades 3-5, we have been and will continue to work on MSA reviews, in addition to our normal instructional programs, to help prepare our students for testing. At home, you can help your children by making sure they get a good night’s sleep before testing days and eating a good breakfast in the morning. In addition, please try not to schedule doctor appointments or planned absences on testing days. Lastly, encourage your children to try their very best and fully answer each question.
We have done very well on MSA testing over the past several years. During that time, we have had some of the best scores in Cecil County Public Schools and we would like to continue to stay at the top.
Construction Update: Due to the tight timeline between now and MSA, we have decided to postpone moving into our new classroom wing until after testing. This will allow us to focus on preparing for the test in the next week instead of having to pack, move, and then complete testing. The good news is that by the end of March, most of our students will be working in a brand new classroom!
Thanks for the tremendous support of Calvert Elementary you continue to show!
