Calvert Elementary School recognizes that all children have worth, dignity, and an inalienable right to an educational program that allows them to develop to their fullest potential-physically, emotionally, socially, artistically, and intellectually. Our major emphasis is to provide knowledge and skill, so students can function effectively as an individual and as a contributing member in an ever-changing world.

Come join us for our first PTO meeting of the school year- Tuesday, August 19 at 7:00pm in the school cafeteria.

We will have an Open House on August 20th so students can become familiar with where their classroom is and meet their teacher for the upcoming school year.

Students whose last name begins with A-M are invited to visit from 2:00-2:30pm

Students whose last name begins with N-Z are invited to visit from 2:30-3:00pm

Parents - Letters are going to be arriving in the mail with your child's/children's teacher assignments for this coming school year.

Principal's Comments

Dear Calvert Families,

This is our last newsletter of the year!  Before I go any further, I want to thank you for your support of Calvert!  I’ve been asked many times this year what makes Calvert so special and my response is always the same – our parents are very supportive and have their children ready for the rigors of school every day.  I also want to personally thank you for welcoming me to the Calvert family and for helping to make my first year a smooth one.  I really appreciate it!

MSA Testing is over!  Our students did a fantastic job of working hard and giving their best effort during math, reading, and science (5th grade) testing.  We are very proud of their efforts and are looking forward to seeing just how well we did.  We are hoping score reports will be in by the end of the school year.

There are less than 30 days of school left this year.  Where has it gone?  As the end of the year gets closer, we have many special events coming up.  End of the year picnics and awards assemblies are just a few of these events.  All grade levels are going on field trips:  Kindergarten is going to the Philadelphia Zoo on May 29; 1st to the DuPont Theatre on May 21; 2nd to Herr’s on May 5; 3rd to the Amish Farm on May 9 and to Longwood Gardens on May 27; 4th to Fair Hill on May 20 (Keys) and May 22 (Cressman/Crumlish) and to Annapolis on June 3; and 5th to Washington, DC on May 15 and to a Blue Rocks game on May 22.   The end of the year will be capped by the fifth grade promotion ceremony on June 5.

With the addition of our new on-line grading system, PowerSchool, there have been some changes to the way we complete grading reports.  Third marking period report cards were generated by PowerSchool for the first time and now fourth marking period Mid-Term Progress Report Cards will be created.  On the week of May 5, each student will bring home this report so you will be better informed of the progress your child is making.   This report is not an interim report and all students will get one, regardless of grades.   If you have any questions about PowerSchool or the Mid-Term Progress Report Cards, please let me know.
