4th Grade Happenings
WOW! What an amazing beginning to our year! We have been studying a wide range of concepts. First, let me just say that Science has been so much fun! We have experimented with paper airplanes and matchbox cars to describe forces. There are a ton more experiments that we will be conducting in Science. As for Social Studies, we are traveling to each region to learn about its significance in American society. In Mathematics, we have been studying word problems with multi-steps and using variables to represent unknown parts in equations and expressions. Please continue to have your child practice his/her basic multiplication facts because these are necessary for our upcoming units. Without this foundation, your child will suffer academically. Students can write down their fact families and identify their errors. Afterwards, these multiplication problems should be emphasized while studying. For instance, on a piece of paper or notecard your child can write 4 x 4 on the front side and 16 on the back side. Then, your child can shuffle through the pile to practice unknown count bys. As for Language Arts, we will be using the writing process to write a descriptive piece, and students will soon be studying Theme 3. Please ask your child to review his/her planner daily. If your student does not have a planner, they are $2.00 at the school store. A planner is a great way for students to record daily assignments and to use as a checklist to complete homework items. Please do not hesitate to contact your classroom teacher if you have any questions or concerns about your child!
