Meet Our Administrators

Mrs. Denise Sopa
Mrs. Nikole MacDowell

It’s hard to believe that the first marking period is over!  We hope you find your parent-teacher conference to be productive and informative.  Conferences are a great way to learn about your child’s areas of strength as well as areas in which your child needs more support.  If you are not able to keep your scheduled appointment, please contact your child’s teacher to determine a time to discuss your child’s progress in school.

Here are some tips for successful parent-teacher conferences:

  1. Talk to your child ahead of time to find out how your child feels about school. What does your child perceive as his/her strengths and opportunities for growth?  Look at graded work that your child has brought home.  Write down questions you have for the teacher regarding your child’s progress.

  2. Arrive on time for your conference.  Due to the number of conferences scheduled, we can only allow for a fifteen minute time block for each conference.  Conferences are scheduled back to back.  If you arrive late, out of respect for the parent with the appointment after yours, we cannot extend your conference time.

  3. Bring pencil/paper to take notes.  Discuss with the teacher ways your child is supported at school and how you can support your child at home.

  4. Please be mindful of parents waiting for the next conference time.  If your discussion requires more time, please schedule an additional conference time with the teacher.

Please remember that the Power School Parent Portal can be used to view your child’s grades and attendance online.  If you do not have the user name and password to access your child’s information, please stop into the school office to receive this information.  CCPS guidelines require us to check ID when giving out this information so we cannot give out this information over the phone or email.

Please join us for our First Marking Period Awards Assemblies on Tuesday, November 17th at the following times:
Grades PK/K/1 @ 9:20 AM
Grades 4/5 @ 1:30 PM
Grades PK/2/3 @ 2:30 PM

The week of November 16th is American Education Week.  The theme for the week is America’s Public Schools: A Basic Right and Our Responsibility.  To celebrate this week, we’d like to invite special people to school to see our students and staff hard at work. Please join us on Tuesday, November 17th from 9:00-11:00 AM OR 1:00-3:00 PM.  Students will be following their normal schedule, and instruction will continue as usual (with the exception of awards assemblies) so special visitors can see what happens in the classroom on a daily basis.  Unfortunately, due to limited space, we will not be able to accommodate visitors for lunch.  Also, we are asking that all younger siblings remain at home so as not to interrupt instruction.   We planned this day in conjunction with our awards assemblies to limit the amount of time that parents would need to take off from work during the week to join us at school.

Attached to this newsletter, is a budget input form.  We are in the process of developing our budget for the 2010-2011 school year, and we’d like to hear from you!  Please write down anything you’d like to see included or addressed in next year’s school budget.  You may return it to school with your child, or you may email your ideas to dsopa@ccps.org.  We would like all community members to have the opportunity to provide ideas and suggestions as we plan for next year.

Thank you for being partners in your children’s education.  As always, our doors are open.  If you ever have any comments, questions, or concerns, please call, email, or stop in to see one of us.
