Second Grade Newskid

Helping at Home-- We encourage the students to read. There are strategies that are available to them everytime they read. If they don't know a word --- they can stop and reread, sound out the letters and blend them, look for little words inside the word or skip over the word and keep reading to get clues. Homework is a tool to reinforce the learning taking place in the classroom. You are your child's resource. Please check it for completion and accuracy as it comes home.
For our last theme in Language Arts, we will be reading selections that have a 'Talent' theme. Its message is that everyone has talent which thaymay not be aware of now and also to practice parctice and practice! The writing piece is producing a 'How to" piece.
In Math, the following site can help you produce some practice sheets at home. (mathfactcafe.com) The second graders are now taking timed subtraction tests. We are continue to work with learning to solve subtraction problems with and without renaming. Also, reviewing coins and their values.
For science, we started our last foss kit about 'Air and Weather'. The students are learning about tools a weatherman uses, types of clouds, changes in wind and then build different systems that catch air.
In Social Studies, we started learning about economics. They will talk about wants and needs. Learn about the different types of resources and how we depend on each.
Check student supplies. The last time to replenish them.
