News from Mrs. Linda Boulden, Asst. Principal

fire truckVolunteers from the Cecilton and Hacks Point Volunteer Fire Companies visited our school on October 12th to teach our students fire safety.

Please take the time to review fire safety with your children at home.  As a family, it is important that you plan an escape route from the house with a good outside meeting place. Be sure that as a family you have a home fire drill including: how to crawl out of the house, where to meet outside, practice what you say for a 911 call, check your smoke alarm, and of course, teach your child about matches, lighters, and stoves.  Also, please make sure that your child knows his /her name, address and telephone number in the event of an emergency.

It is also important that you have a working smoke detector on each level of your house.  Please remember to check your smoke detector once a month and to change the batteries twice a year.

The Cecilton and Hacks Point Volunteer Fire Companies do a lot for our community. On behalf of the faculty, staff, and students, I want to thank the volunteer fire fighters and emergency medical technicians for helping to make our community safe.

Veterans’ Day ProgramCecilton Elementary School will present our annual Veterans’ Day Program on Thursday, November 12, 2009, at 2:00 p.m.  On this special day, we will honor America’s Veterans and men and women currently in the service.  If you know of a Veteran or service men and women in our community, please extend an invitation to them to join us.

A small reception for our visitors will follow the program.  It is our hope that our school families will support the reception by donating cookies.

Also, please remember to wear red, white, and blue as a show of patriotism.
