Nurse's Notes

nurseThe flu season is definitely upon us and it is early this year. We are all concerned with not only the seasonal flu but also the H1N1 strain. It is more important than ever that we all practice good preventative measures to help keep both ourselves and others healthy. Please continue to teach your children about good hand washing and the importance of keeping their hands away from their faces. Teach them about sneezing into their sleeves and about not sharing cups, utensils, etc.

Symptoms of the flu include fever, fatigue, sore throat, muscle aches, chills, coughing, or sneezing. Some people also have diarrhea and vomiting. If your child is exhibiting signs of an influenza-like illness, please keep him or her home from school. And remember, your child must be fever free for 24 hours before he/she is allowed to return to school. Fever should be gone without the use of a fever-reducing medicine. If your child is sent home from school due to a fever one day and he/she returns to school the next day, we will call you to ask you to come pick the student up.

We will continue to keep you informed of all vaccines offered by the Health Department as we get the information.  As you all know by now, the H1N1 vaccine supply is backed up and the seasonal flu vaccine is hard to find. You will be notified of all upcoming vaccination clinics offered at Cecilton Elementary for your children and any others being offered by the Health Department in the community. We appreciate your patience in this matter
