The 2009-2010 school year is underway! What a wonderful summer!
My name is Jen Long (jlong@ccps.org) and I will be assisting with organizing the Parent Teacher Organization at Cecilton Elementary again during this school year. I want to welcome all of our new families and welcome back our CES veteran families!
The other P.T.O. Executive Board members are Michelle Lilly (mishlilly01@yahoo.com), Joanne Boyle (jboyle@ccps.org), and Jane Getty (Jane.Getty@fiacaredservices.com). We have been working on ideas focused on developing and maintaining the best environment for our children, teachers, and school family. We are adopting a “Find Your Fit” theme this year. This theme will encompass finding personal physical, emotional and social “fitness” as well as examining how each of us fit into this community.
Included please find a SAVE THE DATE CALENDAR with dates to add to your calendar. No matter how you fit into this organization and community- we encourage your participation. In addition to monthly social events and fund raising events, our regular scheduled meetings will be on the third Tuesday of every month. Each monthly meeting will offer a topic that will be discussed and explored as a way to stretch our capacity to help our students and become more “fit” and well rounded as individuals.

We have begun to contact folks that we consider to be local “experts” on these topics to present at each meeting. The guests will be asked to present from the School System Perspective and then how families can carry over at home with each topic. If you have expertise on any of these topics and would like to assist with presenting, please feel free to contact me at jlong@ccps.org.
To kick off this year and to get all of the wonderful plans off the ground, we are holding our annual membership drive. This year we are continuing the leveled membership drive tradition started last year. This is not an exclusive invitation to join the P.T.O. - you may join the P.T.O. at any point during the school year. To make it convenient, we would like to provide you with a membership form. All you have to do is fill out the membership form and send it, bring it, or mail it to school. Once it is signed by a P.T.O. officer the tear off portion will serve as your receipt and membership card until you receive your official card. Remember to keep your receipt for your taxes!
The leveled Membership Drive works like this:
- Basic Membership is $5 per family.
- Red Apple Membership is $25 - $49 per family. Your family will receive a Cecilton Elementary P.T.O. Window Cling to display on your car window!
- Green Apple Membership is $50 - $74 per family. Your family will receive a Cecilton Elementary P.T.O. Window Cling to display on your car and a Cecilton Elementary School T Shirt!
- Gold Apple Membership is $75 and over per family. Your family will receive a Cecilton Elementary P.T.O. Window Cling to display on your car, a Cecilton Elementary School T Shirt and a Cecilton Elementary School sweatshirt!
When considering these membership options, also consider committing your time to our school and children. Research proves that children whose parents volunteer in their school perform better in school, on standardized tests and have fewer disruptive behaviors! It doesn’t matter what your strengths are, there is a place for you in this organization! On behalf of the P.T.O. Executive Board Members, we look forward to working with you in support of the students of Cecilton Elementary School.
