Principally Speaking
I will be communicating with each school family in newsletters this year and I will also be using the School Messenger Services. These are the phone calls that you receive from me at home with pertinent information or updates on school events. I believe that communication between home and school is vitally important to your child’s success at school.
Communicate with the school on a regular basis. If you should have a question or concern, write a note, e-mail or phone the teacher. Open communication between home and school is very important. Often times a small concern can be taken care of with a quick phone call.
It is important that you stay attuned to your child’s academic progress on a weekly basis. It is also very important to praise your child’s accomplishments appropriately.
Also, please be reminded that if your child is an AM car rider that the drop-off time starts at 8:35 AM. We do not have anyone prepared to watch your child until that time. It is extremely important that your child arrive at school on time between 8:35 – 8:45 AM. This allows the students to be ready for instruction to begin at 9:00AM.
Charlestown Elementary will be hosting a Meet and Greet on Tuesday, August 24, 2010 from 3:00 to 4:00 PM. The Boys and Girls Club will be held at Charlestown Elementary School this year and will begin on September 7, 2010. Registration for this year’s club will be held at the former location, 630 Water Street, Charlestown, MD on Tuesday, August 24, 2010 from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. You may also call their office at 410-287-8006 and they will send you an application.
I am looking forward to Open House on September 22, 2010; information about that evening will be sent home in September. On that evening we will also be sharing information on the variety of ways that you can become a Charlestown Elementary Volunteer. The PTA will also be represented that evening; they are a vitally important group of parents and teachers that support many school activities. Effective communication between home and school can make the difference in your child’s school progress.
I am looking forward to seeing everyone on September 22, 2010 and for a successful school year!
Linda J. Haske
