Mr. Robert Gerard, Principal 
As the new principal of Cherry Hill Middle School, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome all new and returning students to CHMS and the 2007-2008 school year. I was a guidance counselor at CHMS from 1981-1988, and it was my first experience in middle level education; so I really feel like I’m “coming home.”
Our major initiative this year, as all middle schools in the county, will be to integrate technology with instruction. All of our teachers will be receiving lap top computers at the beginning of the year, and CHMS will receive an additional 112 computers for distribution within the school. Most classrooms will have a group of approximately five computers designated for student use. Teachers will be designing lessons that incorporate technology into their planned activities. The long-range goal of this initiative is to put technology in the hands of teachers and students for regular use in classrooms and for our 8th graders to meet the Maryland technology goals (TL8 goals) by 2011.
The Cherry Hill Middle School faculty and staff and the CHMS student body enjoy a wonderful reputation, and having spent seven years in the building “back in the day,” I know from experience that that reputation is justly deserved. The faculty and staff I have met and worked with this summer and our 6th graders in JumpStart show me that we have very enthusiastic teachers and students. I know that CHMS students, in partnership and with the support of our parents and community, will have an exciting and productive year. I look forward to meeting our students and parents and to an extremely successful school year.
