Course Descriptions and Units of Study

Grade 6: The art program in grade six focuses on an understanding of Design. Students will explore and gain an understanding of the Elements of Design in works of art and personally created art works. Projects will correlate to units on: Line, Size,Shape - Form- Space, Color, and Texture.
Grades 7&8: Students will continue the study of art in middle school by exploring and gaining an understanding of the Principles of Design in works of art and personally created art works. Projects will incorporate the use of the elements of design with the units on: Balance, Rhythm -Movement, Proportion, and Variety - Emphasis - Unity.
The middle school art program is designed to help prepare students for a more advanced program of study at the high school level. All units will be taught in four parts in all three grades. These parts are known as “Outcomes”. They are: Aesthetic Education,Historical - Cultural - Social Contexts, Production, and Aesthetic Criticism.

Each student is required to have a portfolio of supplies that they bring to class each day and maintain for the full three years at Cherry Hill Middle School. They are: portfolio (to fit inside their locker), sketch pad (to fit inside the portfolio), #2 pencils, eraser, set of colored pencils, ruler, compass,protractor,set of felt tip markers, and a
portable pencil sharpener.
Expectations
All students need to come to class prepared with materials and ready to work.
All students need to be respectful and exhibit responsible behavior.
All students will remain in their assigned seats.
Profanity and disruptive behavior will not be tolerated.
Problems will be dealt with on a personal level with the student first, with parents second and with the administration third.
