Core Technologies studied: Various class and lab activities are used to teach the technologies noted below.

6th grade

Mechanical, Material and Structural Technology

7th grade

Electric, Electronic and Optical Technology

8th grade

Thermal, Fluid and Bio-Related Technology

Technology Education in the middle school level is based on exploration. At this level students will receive a broad introduction to technology and the application of a technological system with the focus on the nine core technologies; Mechanical, Structural, Fluid, Electrical, Electronics, Optical, Thermal, Bio, and Materials. It is recommended that all students study technology at this level regardless of educational and career goals. This results in a planned Technology Education course in sixth, seventh and eighth grade.

Goals:
  • Introduce to technology systems.

  • Utilize a problem-solving strategy to solve technology related problems.

  • Develop a positive self-image by having success in hands-on experiences.

  • Develop skills in the safe use and operation of basic hand tools, power tools, materials and processes of technology.

  • Develop cognitive, psychomotor, and affective problem solving skills by researching, developing, designing, producing, analyzing and evaluating products.

  • Appreciate the nature of technology and its impact on the individual, society and the environment.

  • Develop computer skills.

  • Identify relevant occupations, careers and educational programs in technology fields.

  • Demonstrate the application of basic academic skills to technology and other real world experiences.

  • Develop social skills while working with others in large and small groups.

  • Develop an understanding of the core technologies and their application to any technology system.

  • Advance skills in following written and oral directions.
