Animals

Many animals are found in Kauai. Just like each of the other Hawaiian Islands, Kauai's home to many tropical fish and mammals.

The first thing I saw when I went to Kauai was a whole bunch of wild chickens running around in the street. These chickens are called "Moa's", and they are a famous bird in Kauai. Staying in Kauai for just a week can make you a more careful driver because you always have to be aware of the chickens as you drive around!

One of the many cute lizards found in Kauai is a gecko. These little lizards love to hide under things, and often hang out under outdoor steps. You normally see them at night time because they are attracted to the light that comes from lamp posts or street lamps.

There are also many birds found in Kauai. If you travel up to the mountains and canyons, you will see wild horses and goats. In some wilderness areas, there are wild pigs and peacocks that live in the mountains, too.

Many kinds of tropical fish live in Kauai, too. Some of the most popular fish seen are the angel fish as shown below at the top left. You can see this type of fish and many other types if you go snorkeling. The fishes that swim in Kauai's oceans have all different colors, sizes, and designs.
