Traditions and activities range widely in Kauai. A very big tradition is a luau. This is a big celebration that occurs once a week that is meant to bring family and friends together. The party includes learning activities, a special show with hula dancers and Hawaiian music, and of course, tons of food! The traditional roast pig is always found as the main food at a luau.
Many Hawaiians also feel it is
a good thing to teach their children traditional Hawaiian dances
and games. Sometimes, the games are played at shows and parties,
such as luaus. Dances can also be preformed at luaus. Hawaiian
dances are unique because each one tells a story.
Another big tradition is making arts and crafts. Many women that
live in Kauai make flower lies, shell necklaces, woven baskets,
and many other things, too. At special times each year, there
are craft shows where people can display their works, and sell
them.
Fishing is another fun activity found on this island. Many people also enjoy snorkeling in the ocean, where you will see many of Kauai's tropical fish.
