In 1789, Clark joined the Militia, to fight Indians in Ohio Valley. Three years later he became an officer. He had to retire in 1796, to take care of the Plantation. He never forgot about his dream to return to the Militia and once again, become an officer. |

| William Clark was born on august 1, 1770, in Caroline County, Virginia. He grew up on a Virginia Plantation, with his brother, George Rojers Clark. George was a Revolutionary War hero, which inspired Clark to be just like him. | ||||||||||||||
| In 1803, Meriwether Lewis and President Jefferson invited him to join an expedition as 2nd in command. For weeks he studied astronomy and cartography. This was because William was responsible for creating all the maps and charts. | ![]() |

When he returned, Thomas Jefferson made him Principal Indian Agent and Brigadier General of the Louisiana Territory. Soon after he became Superintendent of Indian Affairs. This was until his death on September 1, 1838. |
