The Magnificent Amazon River

200 million years ago when dinosaurs roamed the earth, there was a river it was what now call the Amazon River in Gondwanaland (back then Africa and South America were fused.  Back then though, it flowed to the Pacific Ocean instead of the Atlantic because Africa and South America were fused.  Today it is still thriving, but going the other way.  It is one of the most powerful rivers in the world, many try to harness its power but most of them fail or they hurt it or the surrounding rain forest.

The Amazon River is a whopping 3,900 miles long.  Its average width is1.2 to three miles.  The Amazon River's deepest point is 121 feet deep.  It even has over 10,000 tributaries.  Lastly it has a water volume of 259,000 cubic yards.  It would truly be a sight to behold.

There is a lot of life and power in the river.  There is even a special kind of rainforest that is underwater.  It is called an Igapo rain forest.  This is a haven to many fish and plants for the river gives fertile soil to the plants and it is calm enough for fish to live in.  The Amazon River is one of the most amazing rivers in the world.  So people should be told about it because it is interesting subject.
