Krakatoa |

Krakatoa is probably the most deadly volcano to hit in Indonesia. It is located on a small island in the Sunda Straits off the coast of Indonesia. It first erupted on August 26,1883. There was not that much technology back then so they didn’t know if Krakatoa was asleep or awake. They probably knew it was awake because every day smoke would shoot out of the top for 4 months until one day it erupted. The volcano was 300 miles away from Indonesia so it was hard to see the smoke just barely puffing out of the top. Then one day a huge screech was let out they could hear it from thousands of miles away. The village on the coast was later to find out that an earthquake had just exploded under water. The water rose causing a tsunami it got bigger and bigger as it got to shore. When it hit land it was as high as a 12-story building.Within minutes a tsunami cleared down a total of 3000 villages. Most land on the coast had 80 feet of water covering it. Every boat that was tied down to an anchor was ripped from it and never o be found again. Still today they are finding ships and boats sunken under the sea probably caused by Krakatoa. On that day there was so much water covering the world and dust everywhere the world temperature dropped 13 degrees. |
