Lava

Lava is the most known part of a volcano.  They think that it is the deadliest part of the volcano.  Believe it or not it is really not the most deadly.  The avalanche of smoke is the deadliest. The lava does not travel far enough to kill anyone.  The only people it can harm are people on the mountain.

The lava can range from 1,300 degrees to almost 2,500 degrees.  It is a slushy mix of gases, liquids, rocks and small minerals.  The thickness of the lava can range from a honey like feeling to almost solid. The main elements in the lava are silicon and oxygen. The color is almost reddish orange to yellow.

After the lava has hit the lava will harden and be come almost a black rock.  Until the lava hits the ground it is magma but when it does hit he ground it is lava.  The magma is stored deep down inside of the volcano.  It builds up for years and years then there becomes too much magma for the volcano to hold so it erupts.  Can melt your hand if you touch the lava.
