Thomas Paine lived in the 1700s. Most people did not like him but he had some supporters. He is well known for writing his thoughts. Paine often wrote about politics and religion. He played an important role in the American Revolution.

Tom Paine was nicknamed “Filthy Tom Paine” but he didn’t care. Another nickname was “That dirty little atheist” because he didn’t believe in God. He stood up for what he believed in. Thomas Paine had perseverance, he didn’t quit, he kept trying.
