Invasive Species

Do you know what an invasive specie is? It is when species from other areas or countries invade a certain area and overpopulate that area. In the Chesapeake Bay, there are many invasive species. One especially is the clam. The Japanese clams are the invasive species.

The Japanese clam has overpopulated the claims that already live in the bay. When I went claiming in the bay, only 2 out of 25 claims were not Japanese clams. I think that is really bad for the number of claims in the bay. Clams do help the bay. They are filter feeders. Filter feeders are animals or plants that can clean the dirty things in the bay.

I have told you about invasive species. They can be dangerous to the bay because they overpopulate. They can help the bay too. They help because the clams clean the bay. That is how invasive species affect the bay.
