Sports

People in Mexico play many different sports and games. The favorite team sport is tlatchtli. Tlatchtli is soccer and basketball combined. When playing tlatchtli two teams advance a hard rubber ball using their elbows, knees, and hips. The object is to propel the ball through a vertical ring about eighteen inches in diameter. Some other sports they play are the following: pole climbing, soccer, football, baseball, basketball, volleyball, tennis, boxing and wrestling. Two other sports that are played are "jaialai" and "fronton". These two sports are related to tennis. Both games are played in three sided courts and both involve batting a ball against a wall. Players use a wicker basket to catch and fling a rock hard ball against a wall. The ball can travel up to one hundred miles an hour.
