A Hurricane can be easily spotted from space because it looks like a big circle of clouds spinning in a counterclockwise rotation. On an average year about 100 hurricanes develop. Ten of those 100 hurricanes develop into tropical storms. Six of them turn into full-scale hurricanes. In the last five centreys there has not been a year without a hurricane. When a hurricane is formed in the Pacific Ocean it is called a typhoon. When one is formed in the Atlantic Ocean then it is called a hurricane. Usually two hurricanes strike the United States a year. Hurricanes usually travel in the Northwest direction. Also hurricanes get stronger over warm water but not cold water. The most dangerous part of a hurricane is the storm surge because it can cause major flooding. But a typhoon has not hit the United States in years. Also usually people do not listen to the warning and in some cases it costs them their life. |
