Step 7: Product

Your final product must include a cover, a feature article, an editorial, and a bibliography page. Use the information from your notecards and questions to guide your writing. Use your source information to create your bibliography. You can use the Slate Citation Machine to help with the format. Organize your project in the following order:

Cover

  • neat, title, your name, date, optional artwork

Feature newspaper article

  • neat, interesting introduction, organized and well-developed paragraphs, correct spelling and grammar
  • use the feature article graphic organizer (printer-friendly version) to help you with this process

Editorial

  • neat, interesting introduction, correct spelling and grammar, evidence that you are using your research to form your own understanding and personal insight for the editorial
  • use the editorial graphic organizer (printer-friendly version) to help you with this process

Bibliography

  • correct format and correct spelling

Before you begin the rough draft for the feature article, visit the student rubrics to understand how your project will be assessed. As you edit, revise your project according to the rubric's criteria. Exchange papers with another student and peer edit. Conference with your teacher about any concerns you may have. Once you have completed the feature article, repeat the process for your editorial.
