Steps 5 and 6:
Synthesizing & Evaluating

Synthesizing: YOU, the researcher, must reorder information and make connections to develop decisions and solutions.

Evaluating: YOU, the researcher, must determine whether the information gathered is sufficient to support a conclusion.

Putting the Puzzle Together

As you combine your notes, ask yourself the following questions from the Synthesizing & Evaluating Checklist or use a printer-friendly version.

After evaluating your information, you may decide that you need to go back to find more information. Now is the time to do it! You will need to return to Step 2: Planning or Step 3: Gathering.

Putting your information into a feature article graphic organizer (printer- friendly version) and editorial graphic organizer (printer-friendly version) can help you to see the patterns and logic of your presentation.
