Are You Ready to Rock?

During this Rockin' Research WebQuest, you have been collecting information on rocks for the Maryland Geological Survey (MGS). As a geologist, it is now time to work on your own. You will create your persuasive letter to the MGS. Explain to them why they need a section for kids and what information on rocks they should include.

Don't forget to think and write like a geologist!
You will later post this letter on their website.

To write your letter:

1. Open a word processing document from the computer's desktop.

2. Draft your letter on the computer, using your completed Rockin' Research Sheet and the list below. Save it to your file! The writing will probably take you a few days.

3. Go to the MGS's online survey at http://www.mgs.md.gov/survey.html. At the top, under "Personal Information" provide only your first name and your teacher's e-mail address. With your teacher's help, answer the questions on the site. Copy and paste your letter into the box by number 6, which says "Please add any other comments you might have."

4. Check over your work, and then click the "Submit Survey" button at the bottom of the page. MGS will definitely get your comments, and they may even reply to you through your teacher's e-mail account! Keep checking MGS's website at http://www.mgs.md.gov/index.html to see if they have added a special kids' section!
