![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Women . . . They Can Do It All! The U.S. Mint plans to expand into the world marketplace with a new coin that will be accepted anywhere in the world. In the past, U.S. currency honored men and more recently a few women who made outstanding contributions to the development of our country. Now the U.S. Mint wants to find a woman to honor on its first world dollar, better known as a WD. The U.S. Mint has convened a committee to make this selection. To assist the committee, the U.S. Mint announced a contest open to all secondary school students to nominate a woman for the this prestigious coin. Interested students need to research a woman who brought about positive change somewhere in the world. Students will need to submit a paper about their nominee to the selection committee. The student with the "winning" entry will receive a $2,000 prize, a free trip to the U.S. Mint to see the coin being struck, and a mint and proof set of this first ever WD. Your task is to select and research one woman who has not received the recognition she deserved. You will evaluate her life in light of history. Choose a woman you've wondered about, admired, or found interesting. Be sure to select someone about whom you can find several sources of information and has caused important changes in the United States or the world. Your assignment is a 3-4 page research paper based on the woman you believe has had the greatest impact on the world. You will need to have at least four different sources of information--two print sources and two non-print sources. You will also need to complete 15-20 notecards and a bibliography card. First, you need to select a woman to research. The next step in this process is to write strong research questions.
