Who would you compare your woman to today and why?
Teacher Information
This project was designed as an online project for eighth grade students. Teachers will want to use this project to celebrate the vast accomplishments of women in history. Since March is Women's History Month, this project would be most useful then, but could be used during any marking period. This is a collaborative effort between the classroom teacher and the school library media specialist.
Some time is given in school for students to work on this project, but outside of school time will be necessary to adequately complete all steps of the project. A typical schedule for this project is below:
| Day #1 |
Students learn of their task.
Students select a woman to research.
Students set up notecards for research. |
| Day #2 |
Students plan what sources will be most useful.
Students learn about online resources (ie. SIRS Knowledge Source, Proquest Junior).
|
| Day #3 |
Students are divided into two groups.
Group 1 uses print resources today.
Group 2 uses digital resources today. |
| Day #4 |
Group 1 uses digital resources today.
Group 2 uses print resources today. |
| Day #5 |
Students sort through their information.
Students cycle back to locate missing information.
Students finalize their bibliography of resources. |
|
The balance of the project will be completed by students outside of school. Students will organize their notes, write a rough draft, revise and edit the rough draft, prepare the final copy, prepare a cover page, prepare a final bibliography page. |
Final Projects will be assessed using this Scoring Tool.
