Counselor’s Corner

HELLO to everyone who is part of the Conowingo Elementary School family.  My name is Mrs. Dawn Reed and I am very pleased to be returning for my 18th year as a Child Development Counselor for Cecil County Public Schools.  I had worked as a Counselor in Cecil County for 7 years prior to coming to Conowingo. My first year at Conowingo was a halftime position between here and Calvert Elementary.  I truly enjoy the experience of assisting the students, parents, and faculty of the Conowingo community.  I look forward to meeting everyone throughout the year starting with Open Houses.  I am sure I will see many of you at the different PTO functions.  Please stop by and introduce yourself.  My room is on the corner as you enter the Pre-K / Kindergarten hall.  You will probably notice that my favorite color is purple and I collect clowns.  Your children may show you the Bunny wave and explain that it is a special way to say hello to me.

My schedule includes classroom guidance units for all students.  We will have lessons on personal social skills, academic development, careers, as well as personal safety and drug prevention. I have a lending library with resources for parents, teachers, and children.  I also created the Read to Me, Talk with Me Kindergarten program to encourage families to reinforce my lessons.

Individual and small groups will be scheduled as requested by parents, teachers and/or students.  Small groups will meet for 5-6 weeks and last for approximately 20-30 minutes per week. 

The Elementary Guidance program focuses on prevention.  However there are times that a crisis may occur.  Please feel free to contact me with any concerns about the counseling program or any concerns you may have regarding your child.
