Student Driver Regulations

Driving and parking on school property is a privilege.  All students who drive to school must know and observe the following regulations.  Failure to follow the regulations may result in a driving suspension.  Students who have their driving privileges suspended will be required to turn in their permit to the office for the duration of the suspension.

1. Only licensed drivers may register to drive to, and park on Elkton High School property.
2. Students must pay the $5.00 vehicle registration fee.  The parking decal must be attached to the front windshield in the lower left hand corner.  The decal can be used in any vehicle registered to the student.
3. Each student must park in the designated student parking lots.  Students may park in the 2 lots next to the football stadium.  The lot in front of the building is designated for staff and visitor parking – students are prohibited from parking in the front lot.
4. Vehicles parked in restricted areas, which include the front of the building, staff/visitor lot, handicapped parking (without handicap tags) or in “no parking” spots will have their driving privileges suspended.
5. Students are not to drive from school grounds during the school day without parent permission which has been verified in the main office. Please refer to the section explaining sign-in and sign-out procedures.
6. Student vehicles are not to be used as lockers.  Students will not be permitted to go to the parking lot during the school day unless they have administrator permission and a valid car pass from the main office.
7. Speeding or careless driving is strictly prohibited.  The speed limit on school property is 10 mph.
8. Student drivers are not to use the bus lane as an exit.
9. Students are expected to arrive to school and be in first period before the tardy bell sounds.  Student drivers who are excessively tardy or absent may have their driving privileges suspended or lose driving privileges.
10. At the end of the school day, student drivers are expected to leave the school grounds within 10 minutes unless they are involved with an after school activity.

Parking Permits will be sold beginning August 26, 2009 at the bookkeepers window in the main lobby during lunch and after school until 3:15 pm. Students who have a valid driver’s license will be able to purchase a parking permit for $5. Students are required to complete a registration form and sign that they have read the parking regulations before they will be issued a permit. Vehicles parked on school property without proper authorization may be towed at the owner’s expense.
Elkton High School requires that students register to park on EHS property to help prevent unauthorized individuals from parking on the property during school hours, and to account for vehicles and drivers in case of emergency. The registration cost is used to pay for the cost of registration supplies (i.e. decals.)
