Athletic Philosophy
The primary purpose of the Elkton High School Athletic Program is to promote the physical, social, emotional, and moral well-being of the athletes. Our athletic program is an important and integral part of the overall school experience and is open to participation by all students, regardless of individual differences. All athletes are expected to be a responsible and respectful person who is a student first and foremost.
Athletics do, most definitely, provide the "other half of education." We hope that the athletic program will stand as a positive force in preparing our athletes, and student body as a whole, for an enriching and vital role in American life. Teamwork, committment, determination, and discipline are the primary characterisitcs that will be stressed.
The purpose of the junior varsity teams is to develop individual and team fundamentals while, also, nuturing knowledge and enjoyment of the sport. On the other hand, varsity teams will have the most competitive athletes in the contest and playing time will be determined by preformance in practices and contests. Regular daily attendance at practice is expected.
Sportsmanship
Athletes must keep in mind that they are always in the public eye and their conduct will always be subject to the scrutiny of their fellow students, fans, opponents, and media. Athletes, therefore, have an obligation to serve as positive role models by showing respect for authority and emphasizing the ideals of good sportsmanship and fair play in all actions and language. Profane language is never acceptable.
