December Newsletter for the Class of 2009

October Newsletter for the Class of 2009

Hello students and parents at from Elkton High.  This is the first newsletter being written for the class of 2009.  It’s hard to believe that we are already approaching interims and are days away from October.  We have a very busy but beneficial next few months ahead.

There will be a college fair on Wednesday October 3, 2007 at Perryville High School.  The event will host several colleges, technical colleges, and Universities and run from 6:00-8:00pm.  Please try to arrive a little early to ensure that you give yourself time to visit with representatives and provide yourself enough time to hear presentations.  This is an excellent opportunity for juniors to start their college search and gain valuable insight as to what they would like to do for post-secondary education.  Representatives from various institutions will present information about the college search process, NCAA eligibility requirements, and the financial aid process.  Counselors from CCPS will also be available to answer any questions that you may have.

The PSAT examination will be held on October 17, 2007 at Elkton High.  Registration ended September 21, 2001.  This is an excellent opportunity for juniors to prepare for the SAT, gain valuable insight on how to improve areas of possible academic weaknesses, and enter competitions for recognition National Merit Scholarship Corporation scholarships.  There would normally be a fee for taking the examination, but due to a grant being written any 11th grade student may take it for free.  For more information about the PSAT please visit www.collegeboard.com

11th grade students also need to look into taking the SAT.  This test is required for students wishing to enter 4 year institutions.  This is also the case for students that wish to play sports at the institution of their choice.  In order to be eligible certain scores must be obtained.  For more information on testing dates, site locations, and information about the SAT please visit www.collegeboard.com

I look forward to working with all of you and welcome you to contact me should you have any questions.  You can contact me by phone, email, or through the guidance office to set up an appointment for a face to face visit.  Please check the website for future news and updates for the class of 2009.

Thanks and enjoy a happy and prosperous school year.
