Band News
(Miss Kelley Moorman - Instrumental Music Teacher)
Our Winter Concert was a resounding success! I was very proud of our young musicians here at Leeds, and I'm sure you are, too!
As we enter a new year, it's a great time to encourage your child to recommit to the excellence they have shown so far this school year. Don't forget that Friday is band day! The students will need to bring their instruments, lesson books, and practice logs to band every Friday for practice! Please remember that band grades do appear on the report card, so it is very important that all band members come to band every week with all their materials.
A note about practice logs. Many students have been very faithful in completing and returning their practice logs every week. Some have not gotten the hang of it yet. The expectation is that each band member practices 100 minutes per week (this averages out to about 15 minutes per night). The practice log is a graded weekly assignment, and must be signed by a parent or guardian each week in order for your child to receive credit. Uncompleted practice logs can have a poor effect on your child's band grade for the marking period!! The practice log is worth 25% of the marking period band grade, so PLEASE be sure to help your child fill out the log each week, and finish it off with your signature.
As always,
if you ever have any questions or concerns about your child's progress, please do not hesitate to contact me at kmoorman@ccps.org.
Thank you for visiting! Keep checking back for updated information as the year progresses.

Art Room News
(Ms. Ruth Manning - Art Teacher)
We are thinking “3D” in the Art Room this winter. Thanks to all you first and second grade families for sending in those tubes with your students, they will be appearing in all sorts of interesting sculptures throughout the year.
First Grade are busy making Bombaloos (you must ask your student what that means!) and Second Grade is getting ready to make the ever popular Alien Robot Head, who can resist that? Third Grade has just finished their Mexican inspired animals created with a recycled water bottle and Fourth Grade will be starting a mask from an egg carton shortly. In the spring, Fifth Grade will be creating a locker sculpture, as they look forward to the transition to middle school and Kindergarten will be creating Arnie the Donut.
So you see, things are certainly interesting in the Art Room.

Topics currently being covered in Integrated Arts
Primary Grades (K, 1 & 2): Students in Kindergarten, First Grade and Second Grade over the next few weeks in class will be performing with scarves, learning how to make the letters of the alphabet with their bodies, and practice leaping. While in class the students contribute in discussions, listen to books, and by participate in movement activities.
Intermediate Grades (3, 4 & 5): All students will begin the study different countries. While on this topic students will learn facts about the county, dances, games, and will be able to identify the flag. To complete this task the students will work with a variety of their peers at stations, in creative performances, and in cooperative activities.
