BRRRR! Did the groundhog see his shadow? We are eagerly awaiting spring!
In Language Arts we are wrapping up Theme 6. Students will be reading about The Red-Eyed Tree Frog to discuss animal adventures. Our culminating activity for this theme will be a field trip to The Baltimore Aquarium on February 19th. You should have received permission slips earlier this week, please return them to school in a timely manner. Theme 7 is called “We Can Work It Out”. Students will read stories about solving problems, sharing, and cause and effect. Some of the stories are That Toad is Mine, Lost!, and If You Give A Pig A Pancake. The next writers workshop is on writing a description. Students are asked to bring in a toy small enough to fit in their book bag and be stored in their lockers while we are doing our writing. Be on the lookout for more information about this project.
In our math unit we will are concentrating on fact power and strategies for addition and subtraction. The students have learned many games and strategies they can share with you at home. We will soon be starting our Geometry unit. Students will learn the names of 2D and 3D shapes. Students will also learn how to compare information using graphs. They will also be exposed to fraction, circle graphs and clocks.
Soon we will be starting our next Primary Talent unit. It is titled Bubbleology. Students will be encouraged to be persistent and perceptive. They will learn about the bubbles through scientific investigations. This unit builds on the Kindergarten units in which persistent and perceptive behaviors were introduced. Students will demonstrate these behaviors by completing tasks to learn the attributes of bubbles, what makes them pop, and making a bubble sculpture.
Please make sure your child is dressing appropriately. Your child may want to bring a sweater or sweatshirt to keep in their locker to wear during the day if they get cool. Students should also be wearing warm winter coats, hats and gloves.
