Kindergarten

In January kindergartners began Vocabulary Books and Take-Home Books.  Please help your child learn to read by practicing these books every evening.  These books should also be brought to school each day.  We are working hard on writing skills.  Making sure we always do our BEST (Begin with a capital letter, End with a period, leave Spaces, and Try our best).

In math, we learned the teen numbers.  When writing teens you must remember to put the one first.  We are working on seeing “tens” in teens.
This month we will be adding and subtracting.  Be on the lookout for homework involving these skills.

In science, we are finishing up a unit on wood.  We will have a culminating activity that includes hammering and nailing.  Be looking for a finished product to be coming home in February.  Last week we enjoyed Fair Hill Nature Center coming to our classrooms to teach us about hibernation.  Thank you to the Cecil County Arts Council for funding this program.

This month we look forward to learning about food.  We will find out what a food pyramid is and taste some healthy foods.  Be on the lookout for information on Valentine’s Day.  We will have a small celebration with cards and food on February 12.
