Second Grade News

March into marvelous second grade!  This month students will start to read stories about families in Language Arts.

In writing, students will begin researching and writing reports about animals in various habitats.   During this activity students will be learning about topic sentences, hooks and endings, and how to organize their writing into paragraphs.

We are continuing instruction for cursive handwriting.  Be sure your child is using correct letter formation, grip, and posture when completing cursive handwriting assignments at home.  These assignments may be returned to be re-done if they are not neat and correct.

In Mathematics, we will start unit #7:  Patterns and Rules.  Students will have to identify, extend, create, and describe patterns with one, two, and three-digit numbers, as well as, find the missing number in an addition/subtraction sentence.

In social studies we will begin unit #3:  Our Changing World.  Students will build an understanding of time and how time affects the things around them.

In science, we will begin our wonderful insect unit.

Also, parents please remember to sign your child’s assignment pad every night after their homework is completed!!
