First Stop: Kindergarteners are active passengers in their learning!
As the third marking period has come to an end, students begin their final marking period by working towards our new goals.  Please start working with your child on the following goals in order to help us meet them as a class:

  1. Counts to 100
  2. Completes Basic Addition and Subtraction Facts
  3. Applies Calendar Skills
  4. Identifies 85% of Sight Words
  5. Writes 2 Sentences About the Same Topic – Applying Basic Writing Conventions

Cruise into Reading!
During the final marking period, Kindergarteners will take a trip into the wonderful world of animals.  We will explore a wide variety of animals through two separate themes.  During our first new theme, A World of Animals, students will explore various types of animals and will take a field trip to the Philadelphia Zoo to conclude their experience.  In addition, students will learn about farm animals during our next theme, Down on the Farm.  During this theme, students will also take a field trip to Kilby Dairy Farm and Ice Cream Shop.  Students will learn about the process involved in making ice cream, from cow to ice cream!

Movin’ through Mathematics!
This marking period, Kindergarten students will be busy counting!  We will review patterns, identifying coins and their value, time, and writing numbers.  In addition, we will continue to work on basic addition and subtraction facts.  Continue to work with your child at home to identify the value of coins and practice telling time.

Kindergartener’s Roll out the Writing!
Students will continue applying basic writing conventions to their writing, including: beginning a sentence with a capital letter, using finger spaces, using punctuation and using the word wall to spell words.  In addition, students will practice proper handwriting skills.  Students will be working hard to fine tune these writing skills by editing, revising and publishing their writing assignments.

Future Scientists Aboard!
