Grade 2 News

Wow!  We are about halfway through the fourth marking period and the school year is rapidly coming to a close.

In Math we are beginning Unit 9 which is called Measurement.  The children will be learning how to measure using standard units (inches and centimeters), non-standard units (paper clips and cubes), units of capacity (cups, gallons, and liters), perimeter and area.  Please read the salmon colored Parent Connections to help guide you through the unit.  Students need to continue practicing their addition and subtraction flashcards also.

In Language Arts we will be reading stories about talents that people have.  Encourage your child to discuss their talents.  As we read we will use the reading strategies of evaluate, summarize, question and monitor and clarify to help us become better readers.

In Science we are working on our Balance and Motion unit.  Students will be completing a home project using the Balance and Motion vocabulary.  The students enjoy this science unit as they learn how to make objects balance and set objects in motion.

In our final Social Studies unit the children will compare and contrast the culture of Japan with the United States.  The children will learn how to count to ten, as well as, say a few words in Japanese.
