Grade 3 News
We enjoyed meeting with so many of our families during our parent/teacher conferences held the beginning of November. We look forward to continuing to work with you to insure that our third graders have a successful year.
Here is a quick overview of what we will be studying during the second marking period.
Reading –
Theme 2 - We have been reading and learning about traditions. The stories that are in Theme 2 are The Keeping Quilt, Anthony Reynoso Born to Rope, and The Talking Cloth and Dancing Rainbow.
We will be learning about the structure of plays and poems as we complete a 2 week mini-unit before our winter holiday break.
Theme 3- We will begin to read incredible stories. We will read Dogzilla, The Mysterious Giant of Barletta, Raising Dragons and The Garden of Abdul Gasazi
Math –
Unit 3- Addition and Subtraction word problems
Unit 4- Figures, Angles, and Triangles
Unit 6- Patterns.
Unit 7 – Multiplication and division with 0-5 , 9 and 10
Don’t forget you may turn to Houghton Mifflin Website and look under third grade as a resource to help your child with math strategies and terms.
Writing- Our main writing pieces this marking period is writing stories and opinion paragraphs.
Social Studies- We are completing our Cecil County unit and will be beginning our unit on the Amish Community. We enjoyed a field trip to the Amish Farm in Lancaster, PA.
Science- We are continuing to work with our sound unit and will be beginning our structures of life unit.
