Grade 4 News
The fourth marking period is rapidly approaching! The fourth grade has been working hard this school year and we continue to grow.
The students continue to work hard on setting their own goals in math and have been tracking their goals and progress in their goal folders. In math we will be moving on to learn about reflections and symmetry. The students will be using reflective mirrors to identify and explain reflection, as well as other types of translations. They will also be learning about percents. You can help your student at home by reviewing the past concepts such as, measuring using inches, centimeters, and millimeters, solving multi-digit addition, subtraction, and multiplication problems, as well as solving elapsed time problems.
We are in the middle of Theme 4 of reading, which focuses on the concept of young people showing initiative, courage, and cooperation. Most of the stories are realistic fiction in which children need to solve problems. Please continue to encourage your student to read every night and don’t forget to read with your child too!
It’s hero time! Our new writing project is writing a personal essay. We will be focusing on writing about our heroes. A “Heroes Tea” will take place at the end of the project. Keep your eye out for an invitation!
In science, students are wrapping up the unit about life cycles of crayfish. Next, students will be learning about health and nutrition. We will be going on a field trip to Fair Hill Nature Center in May. More information will come as we approach the fourth marking period.
Social studies is focusing on the geography and the history of Maryland. To expand our knowledge of Maryland we will be visiting Annapolis on April 29th. More information will come home shortly.
Thanks for your continuous support! The fourth grade greatly appreciates your assistance.
