Grade 4 News

The fourth grade team appreciates all who took the time to attend conferences. We enjoyed meeting all of you!
The students have been working hard setting their own goals in math and language arts. They all have been tracking their goals and progress in their goal binders. In math, we are working on unit 3, which involves place value and multi-digit addition and subtraction. You can help your child at home by reviewing the past concepts. Also, please continue to practice addition and subtraction with regrouping.
We are starting theme 3 in reading, which focuses on the concept of fantasy. The students will be reading stories that range from mysterious to hilarious. Please continue to encourage your student to read every night.
We are starting a new writing project this month where the students will be practicing writing stories using the elements of plot. We will be discussing what is needed to make a story exciting, and will examine several examples of stories with the plot elements. The students will then write their own story with all of these elements.
In science, students are wrapping up the unit about electricity and magnetism. They will be introduced before winter break to the new unit on mechanics of motion. Social studies is continuing to learn about the Midwest. They just finished creating brochures and will now be learning about the Western part of the United States.
We realize this is an exciting and busy time of the year for a lot of people, and appreciate all the help from home to help keep your child focused. Thanks for your continuous support!
