Service learning
Service learning is a requirement for graduation and a project should be completed during 6, 7, 8 and 9th grades for that requirement. Our coordinator for Service Learning is Mrs. Kalista please contact her with any questions you might have ckalista@ccps.org or by phone 410-658-5535 or 410-398-3019.
6th Grade: “THE ENVIRONMENT AND YOU”
Most all of the 6th graders have completed their required Service Learning Project at this time. Their projects were done either through the week at North Bay or an alternative project done here at school.
We may do additional projects in the spring, and students can receive meritorious hours if they participate. In addition if your child is involved in any outside activities that might earn them meritorious hours, please contact me for forms (Connie Kalista; ckalista@ccps.org). Forms are also available on the school’s website ( http://www.ccps.org/rsms/rsms.htm ).
7th Grade: “FOOD FOR THOUGHT”
Seventh graders are completing their “Food for Thought “ Service Learning Project now. If your student has not completed his or her project, please contact me for an alternative project, as well as any meritorious hours they may have earned. (Connie Kalista; ckalista@ccps.org)
8th Grade: “SAVING THE PAST FOR THE FUTURE”
The Eighth Grade project this year, “Saving the Past for the Future,” goes along perfectly with the 150th celebration of Rising Sun. We are working on many ways for the school to be involved. Many of our eighth graders have interviewed past faculty and students of the Rising Sun schools. Other eighth graders are working on family trees with lots of interesting facts that will be displayed in storefronts around Rising Sun during the celebration. If you have any interest in helping with this project please contact me. (Connie Kalista; ckalista@ccps.org)
