Welcome to the 2012-2013 School Year

Dear Rising Sun Middle School Families,

It is always so exciting to begin a new school year. We would like to take this opportunity to welome all of our new families and welcome back all of our returning families. We are looking forward to another great year for the Rising Sun Middle School students, staff, and families as we continue on with our mission of supporting all students in meeting high academic standards and participating as responsible and productive members of our learning community. We recognze that with everyone working together, we can make certain that each student develops fully and acquires the necessary skills to enable them to be successful boh academically and socially.

Rising Sun Middle School is committed to providing a strong academic program and maintaining high expectations for all of our students. Each school year begins with an in-depth analysis of student data from the previous year followed by ongoing monitoring of student progress. Individual student needs are assessed by using a variety of instructional strategies and materials. Multiple assessment measures are utilized to guide instruction that is focused on the content standards for each grade level.

School safety is taken very seriously at Rising Sun Middle School and we have very detailed safety procedures in place. Routine fire drills and civil defense drills are conducted along with lockdown drills. Staff training is conducted at the beginning of each year and subsequently reviewed and revised throughout the year. The safety of our students, staff, and visitors will always remain one of our top priorities.

At Rising Sun Middle School we believe in fostering a strong home and school connection. Parents are provided with information through our "Back to School" parent orientations at the beginning of the school year, important messages via our automated calling system, our bi-monthly newsletters, and this year we are planning to compile an email update system. Volunteers are welcomed and encouraged to participate in a wide variety of ways. Parents are recognized as valuable partners in the education of our students and play a vital role in the success of our school. It is through your individual and collective efforts that we are able to provide our students with all of the resources that they need for an enriching educational experience.

We look forward to having your great kids for the 2012-2013 school year and pledge to take special care of each one of them. We know that you are entrusting them to us and acknowledge that this is an awesome responsibility that we take most seriously. We plan to have a productive, exciting, and fun filled school year.
