The  first unit we will be working on is All About ME! During this unit we will talk about ourselves, body parts, feelings, and families.  In Language Arts our focus will be on letter recognition of both upper and lowercase letters.  We will participate in rhymes, chants, and motion songs.  We will also play a variety of games with rhyming words.

LIPS is another program that we will be working with all year long in Language Arts.   In this program the students will learn how to see, hear, and especially feel sounds in words which will make learning to read and spell much easier.  We will have a lot of fun with this program!

During this unit I will be reading a variety of books and we will work on the concept of left to right, the title, author, and illustrator.  Some of the books we will be listening to are Now I’m Big,Mice Squeak We Speak, Here Are My Hands, How Do You Feel? and Let’s Play.  After reading a  story in class we will compare and contrast, retell the story and answer comprehension questions.

In Writing the students will write or draw pictures to convey information. The students  will also work on labeling their pictures.

We have a new Math series this year.    It is called Houghton  Mifflin Math Expressions.  The lessons include a variety of levels for all  the students.  It gives all children the opportunity for in-depth thinking.  The students will be taking pre-tests and unit tests for each unit of the Math series.

Our First unit is: Understanding Numbers 1-10. In this unit the children will learn number words, written numerals, quantities for each number, and explore how they all relate to each other. The students will be introduced to geometry activities with shapes, body motions, and patterning.
