Principal’s Greeting

October, 2009

Dear Friends of Thomson Estates,
We would like to thank you for the great turnout at our Fall Parent Orientation. Your participation and attendance at school events and programs is vital to the success of our school, and as a Title I school it indicates that we are working together as partners for the mutual benefit of our children. Your positive comments and feedback informed us that we had gotten the school year off to a wonderful start. Our PTO meeting in September also had a high number of participants and we would like to see that repeated on the first Thursday of each month when we have our PTO meetings.  As an added feature, we will have an evening Family Book Exchange the same night as PTO meetings, so you can get books for the family and participate in the meeting on the same night.  Another way to show your support is by volunteering at one of our school-sponsored or PTO-sponsored events.  A great way to begin is by volunteering to help out at our PTO Fall Fest to be held on October 15, 2009. There will be no school for students on October 16, 2009.
As we approach the end of this month, some students will seek some excitement by being a little mischievous and trick or treating.  Please help us build a strong school community by making our school a point of pride and not a target for vandalism. As always, please keep children safe if they participate in trick or treating activities.  With the help of Officers Dave Vogel and Shannon Comley, our School Resource Officers, we will be conducting safety programs for our younger students throughout the month.  Additionally, as October is Fire Prevention Week, we will have our first responders from Singerly Fire Department here to help our younger students know what to do in the event of an emergency and to “learn not to burn”.
Our Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program has really taken hold and our students have done a great job earning spaces on their Passports for being respectful, responsible and safe both in school and on the bus. Please reinforce these expectations at home and if you would like more information on our expectations at school, please contact our office. Also, our Mentor Program is just beginning and students will be working at school with their mentors. If you wish to volunteer at school, please contact Beth Roush, our Family Involvement Advisor. Your time is the most precious gift you can give our school.
Have a great month and thank you for you continued support, cooperation and participation!
