What Happened This Week?
This week, Team Spartan Members investigated friction with the help of Ms. Gyuro. The students gathered data for their investigation using different 'flooring pieces' such as bare flooring, styrofoam, astroturf, bubble wrap and felt.
STEM Club: This week the STEM Club came together on an 'off week' to design and engineer a game for Fall Fest this week. The students are really excited to present you with their challenge at Fall Fest, and would like to extend a special 'Thank You' to Elkton High School Science Teacher, Alison Hapka, a co-facilitator for the Club.
Please stop by and try the challenge the students designed!
This week students in Mr. Sands and Mr. Carlson’s classes wrapped up their Road to the Revolution simulation in which each student played the part of an American colonist. After many activities in the classroom gave students hands on experience with life as a colonist, they were able to show what they learned through a mock Continental Congress debate in the media center. Each student had the opportunity to make their case for whether or not the country should declare independence. The students were extremely enthusiastic and well-spoken. We are all so proud of their performance!
Students in Mrs. Bowman's honors class are reading the book Phineas Gage: A Gruesome But True Story About Brain Science by John Fleischman. They worked in groups to research the brain, how it works, and how Phineas Gage's brain was affected by the accident he had. The groups made posters to represent their findings, and then they learned more about the brain by reading each other's research posters. It was a noisy but exciting few days in the classroom!
FALL FEST - Please join us!
Fall Fest Parent Volunteers Needed: EMS Fall Fest will be held on Thursday, October 18 from 5-7 pm. We are looking for volunteers to assist with the following:
Ticket sales at the door
Prize booth attendants
If you are interested and available, please contact the main office to sign up. No need to work the whole time. If you have 30 minutes to give, that’s great!
We are nearing the end of our fundraiser and appreciate everyone who has showed their support. We know how busy families are...so if you have not yet gotten started...we ask you to start today! There is still time and it only takes a few minutes to register and share online or to show the brochures to your family and friends. Each item sold helps to make a difference in the lives of our kids. It provides for opportunities that are not possible without your help. Let's finish strong.
