What Happened This Week?
On Tuesday afternoon, we conducted a fire drill. Students exhibited excellent behavior and followed expectations. Please encourage your child to continue to take all school safety drills seriously and to listen carefully for information or directions. Thank you!
Students enrolled in the Hybrid Math course (Algebra 1/Geometry) took the PARCC assessment this week. We’re proud of their effort and know they will all do well!
In Ms. Cavanaugh's science class 8th grade students had a debate about potential and kinetic energy after sorting cards into different categories.
This week Ms. Varalli's students investigated gravitational potential energy by measuring the bounce back height of a ping pong ball.
Science Fair is Coming! This year EMS is proud to host an informational workshop for parents, guardians and students on January 15th from 6-7 PM. There will be a presentation for parents and guardians about the expectations for Science Fair, important dates, pictures of past examples and other pertinent information concerning Science Fair. Each family will receive a folder with all of the information presented at the workshop. Snacks will be served, and door prizes awarded. Child care supervision will be provided by the National Junior Honor Society. Students received a flier and RSVP card earlier this week, and one is attached to this update. Please RSVP on the response card, by calling the main office, or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Don’t miss it! Science Fair Info Night.pdf
Career Blast: College Value Workshop, will be held on Thursday, January 31, at 6pm in the cafeteria. This event is for all 8th graders and their families. This event helps students and their families begin to plan for life beyond high school. One lucky student will win a Chrome Book! Dinner (salad, pizza and drink) will be provided to all who attend. Eighth grade students brought fliers home this week, and one is attached to this update. Please RSVP on the response card, by calling the main office, or emailing email@example.com. career blast.pdf
Did You Know?
Cecil County Public Schools has added a middle school sports program this school year. After a successful soccer season this fall, we are excited to begin basketball season! Because of the size of our gym and limited seating, we ask that only families of participating students attend the home games. While we would love for our students to attend and cheer on their classmates, limited seating makes this impossible. Thank you for your cooperation!
Students in Mrs. Bowman and Ms. Falker's ELA classes all received new novels this week. By Feb 4 the students should have the book and assignment finished. Students will be creating a presentation that shows how their novel fits a specific literary genre. Please email Mrs. Bowman if you have any questions - firstname.lastname@example.org
