A Parent’s Guide To Positive Behavioral Intervention and SupportsIntervention and Support
As a PBIS school, we recognize that not all students have the skills to demonstrate our core values on a consistent basis. A part of the PBIS process is providing Tier 2 and Tier 3 intervention and supports to these students. If students are in need of additional supports, we will be working with them to re-teach our behavioral expectations based on our core values of Respect, Responsibility, Safety, and Leadership.
In addition to being a PBIS school, we are also working with the Responsive classroom approach to teaching. Responsive Classroom is an approach that believes how children learn is as important as what children learn. We will be working to include “engaging academics, positive community, effective management, and developmental awareness.
Parent Communication Students, with teacher guidance, will be communicating their successes with home each day. Their successes may be about a behavior, social, and/or academic successes that they experienced throughout the day.
Minor Incident Report (MIR) This is a teacher-managed consequence given to a student when they have not followed one or more of the school-wide expectations. Chronic MIR’s may lead to an Office Discipline Referral (ODR).
Office Discipline Referral (ODR) This is a discipline report that is handled by school administration and goes into the student’s cumulative school file.
Reflective Sheet This is a teacher-managed document for students to use if they needed to reflect on a behavior displayed in the classroom.
It is our goal to help each child reach their full potential here at GMES. Together, with your help, we can promote a positive learning environment!
What is PBIS?
PBIS is a research based decision making framework that specifically teaches students behavioral expectations, acknowledges and celebrates those who demonstrate consistent, socially appropriate positive behavior, as well as provides interventions to those students in need.
The 2018-2019 school year is Gilpin Manor's sixth year as a PBIS school and we are working together to promote our core values of Respect, Responsibility, and Safety. In the 2016-2017 school year, we earned the PBIS MD Silver Award for the progress we have made in improving student behavior.Throughout the school year, you may hear your son/daughter talking about PBIS and our core values of Respect, Responsibility, Safety, and Leadership. We would encourage you to ask questions and possibly utilize some of the same practices at home. Together we can foster change in our school and also in our community!
