Maryland College and Career-Ready Standards and Assessment Program
The Secondary English Language Arts Curriculum is aligned with the Maryland College and Career-Ready Standards (MCCRS). The standards are grounded in the essential skills of reading, writing, speaking, and listening and are aligned with college and career expectations.
Students in grades 6, 7, 8, and 10 will take the English Language Arts and Literacy component of the Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program (MCAP). During the exam, students will read literary and informational passages and demonstrate their reading comprehension through written responses. Students in grade 10 must achieve a scaled score of 725 on MCAP to qualify for graduation. Students who do not achieve a 725 will have the opportunity to retest and, if necessary, complete a Bridge Project. A successfully completed Bridge Project replaces the 725 graduation requirement.
