National Board Certification

  • Established in 1987, the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards is an independent, nonprofit organization working to advance accomplished teaching for all students.  At the present time, there are over 100,000 teachers nationwide who have achieved National Board Certification.

    Completion of the process is recognized as a valuable professional development experience. Cecil County Public Schools (CCPS) supports up to two teachers per year seeking National Board Certification through the Maryland State local aid program. Educators seeking this support must apply through the Division of Education Services.  

    Eligibility criteria selection timeframe and procedures are determined by Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) regulation.

    Please return your one page Cecil County Public Schools application and brief but concise interest essay on how you are already incorporating the 5 Core Propostions into your teaching practice directly to Wesley Zimmerman, Director of Education Services, no later than April 30, 2021.  Confidential references should also be sent directly to the Director of Education Serivces no later than April 30, 2021.
