National Board Certification
Established in 1987, the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards is an independent, nonprofit organization working to advance accomplished teaching for all students. At the present time, there are over 100,000 teachers nationwide who have achieved National Board Certification.
Completion of the process is recognized as a valuable professional development experience. The Blueprint for Maryland's Future law designates a salary increase for eligible National Board Certified Teachers as well as a fee incentive to support teachers through the process. Depending on the number of National Board candidates, MSDE may be limited to the number of certification components that they can support each year. In order to select the teachers for this fee incentive program, all CCPS candidates will need to complete an application to be considered. Eligible teachers interested in participating in the National Board Certification process may choose to pay on their own.
