Biography
Diana Hawley has a background in early childhood education and early intervention and has been an active volunteer, leader, and advocate for Cecil County Public Schools for over fifteen years. She graduated from St. Mary’s College of Maryland with a degree in Psychology and a concentration in child development.
Diana and her husband, Gordon, moved to Cecil County in 2004. They have two children who attended Cecil County Public Schools since kindergarten and graduated from North East High School in 2022 and 2024. In addition to her work in the schools, her longtime experience as a parent continues to help her understand many aspects of the school system and see both the successes and the challenges we encounter at various levels.
Ms. Hawley was initially elected to the Board of Education in 2018 and was re-elected in 2022 to serve a second term. She served as Vice President for 2 years and as President for 4 years, from 2021 to 2025. In addition to her local leadership, she has been an active member of the Maryland Association of Boards of Education (MABE), serving on the Board of Directors since 2021 and as a MABE officer since 2023. In 2025, she was selected to serve as the MABE President, where she continues to champion excellence in public education statewide. She brings positive energy, a passion for excellence, and hands-on leadership to her work serving the public school students in Cecil County and throughout the state. She believes in advocating for ample and equitable resources, engaging stakeholders, and creating meaningful opportunities that empower every student to reach their full potential and strengthen the community.
